    1. How many calories will you burn in the month of November? Brooks is giving away prizes for the leaders in this challenge group.

Just log your workouts in your Sweat365 Journal, and make sure to add your calories. We'll automatically calculate the leaders! You get credit for any calories you burn doing any exercise. So start logging today!

    2. testing the group forums... strange that it made me re-log on at the brooks page but then forwarded me over here...
beta group doesn't seem to have forums

    3. Interesting...

Can you tell me what "path" you followed...

Were you logged in to your main blog?
Then you went to the challenge group?
Then you went to the group's forum from clicking the menu on the group page?
At this point it didn't think you were logged in?

    4. I don't put in the calories I've burned for my workouts. Sometimes I don't even know what I burned. How should I go about being in this group to win a prize? Is there something within the system that could estimate calories for each workout, or do I have to find a website and figure it out on my own.

      Thanks...

    5. Kate, we'll be adding automatic calculation of calories soon. Once we do that, all your workouts that you left it blank will be recalculated for you.

The reason we don't auto-calculated it now, is that calorie calculation is not exactly accurate, and so we leave it to you to use the system that works for you.

But since most of us aren't that accurate, and after all there are formulas that are "close enough" we'll be adding those shortly.

So, just keep logging your workouts, and in the next week you'll see your standings automatically updated.

    6. when I came back to Sweat to track my swim workout I had to log-on to sweat again... which is weird since I have always used 'remember me' and stayed logged in.

Now when I come over here... I stay here at the brooks group rather than jumping to the sweat looking forums so don't knwo what happened I can't replicate it.

Can you tell me what "path" you followed...

Were you logged in to your main blog? yes
Then you went to the challenge group? yes via my groups on the dashboard
Then you went to the group's forum from clicking the menu on the group page? yes
At this point it didn't think you were logged in? then before it would let me post it made me log on again. then sent me over to the sweat looking forums.

Darn... I was counting on being a contender in the calories contest since I have noticed that a lot of people Don't track that :(

    8. Thanks for describing your path, we'll look into that. It should have realized you were logged in to the forums, so something is fishy there. But since you got logged in and were able to post, I guess you got where you were going. :)

    9. Sheba, I'm sure you'll still do great! Don't give up before it starts.

We'll still make people enter their workouts and choose to use our auto-calculation. We just plan to make it easier.

    10. Great, will I have to select something in the future to fix those previous workouts, or will it just do it magically?

      Thanks :)

    11. The plan at this point is to do the following:

      1) The workout page will include a button next to calories burned that will calculate estimated calories based on the activity you chose, time, and your weight on that day (since these formulas are based on weight). We'll let you choose to have this auto-fill, or manually recalculate on your request.

      2) For old workouts, we want to have a wizard that will go back and calculate calories burned for past workouts.

    12. Sounds good, will this happen before the run happy challenge ends?

      Posted 1 year ago #
    13. LOL! I guess we'd better make sure we get it done soon! :)

    14. Does the challenge include private workout posts? I log my warm-ups and cool-downs separately from my runs and I usually make them private. They often add on an extra 100 calories to my day though, so if it doesn't count private posts, I'm gonna be sure to make them public instead.

    15. All workouts log will add into your totals. Private vs. Public on workouts only changes if it's displayed on your journal's public pages.

If your entire Journal is marked as private, then it won't be included in the challenge.

    16. Did you set-up the calories burned calculation? I haven't been able to find it?

    17. It's coming soon. Hopefully released today.

    18. We've added the new calorie calculator to the "Track Workout" page. Check it out and give us your feedback.

Here are the basics of how it works.

      • As you select running, cycling, swimming, etc, we will do our best to pick from the scientifically recognized compendium of physical activity the activity that best describes your workout.
      • If you click the "Show Calorie Details..." as you enter your workout, we'll tell you what we picked. From there you can also pick a different activity if you want.
      • For most activities like running, walking, cycling, we can get a pretty exact match. If so, we'll calculate the calories from that exact match. For example, you rode your bike 1 hour, and went 14 miles. We can get an exact match for that.
      • For some activities, we might not find an exact match, but we'll find several good matches, in this case we'll pick a good estimate. Let's say you swam for an hour, but you didn't tell us how far. There are several potential matches and so we'll pick a good estimate.
      • For some activities we're really have very little idea at all, like "Other" you could mean anything. We'll still calculate an estimated calories burned for all the various "other activities" we found in the list... but these are not very accurate.
      • Wether or not we found a good match, you can always pick from the list and tell us a better match. Say you went for a 3 hour/5 mile hike in the woods with a 40lbs back pack. You told us how far and how long, and so we picked Walking at less than 2mph, which is 469 calories for a 140lb person. But you worked harder then that, you were carrying a pack, so click on "click here" link and look for an item that better describes your workout. Maybe you think "backpacking" at 1643 calories is a better description. So choose that!
      • Also, if you don't want to use our calculations, because you have a Heart Rate monitor, or some other device that calculates your calories, then just go ahead and enter those in to the calories box. We will keep your calories there.

Since many of you haven't been tracking calories in the past, we plan to add a "bulk mode" that will allow you to easily go back and let our system calculate calories for you. But before we do that we want you all to play around with the new system and let us know what you think of it.

      Thanks for your feedback.

    19. Looks great, I saw it in action tonight for the General Cardio section. Is it possible to add an elliptical calculation?

Also, will there be a calculation for flexibility at all?

Thanks again, this is an awesome feature!

      Posted 1 year ago #
    20. If you choose Flexibility, you should get choices of either "stretching" or "yoga" which it turns out at the same MET value, and therefore the guess and either specific choice is the same. If you are not seeing that, then maybe you can send us a screen shot at support@sweat365.com of what you are seeing.

As for elliptical, well, all of these values come for a scientific study, which we don't control, but I will do some research to see if anyone has release a study on it. Does the machine you use display mets? If so, maybe we could add the ability for you to add the METs setting to calculate calories.
